FAQ

When are you open?

We are open 7 days per week on an appointment-only basis.  The advantage of this is that we can schedule time for you to meet one-on-one with the repair tech to discuss your particular needs, answer questions, and help you to achieve the results you are looking for.  Please call us so we can schedule a time that is most convenient for you.

How long will it take?

As long as it takes.  Seriously, most repairs only take a couple hours or less, but in all fairness to the people who came here first, we have to complete all repairs in the order they came in.  We don’t offer any kind of “priority rush service” at a premium like some other shops.  If you’re in dire straights to get your gear back, tell us and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs (let’s just hope your equipment cooperates) at no extra charge.  Usually we can give you a pretty good estimate when you come in for your consultation.  We do track all repairs by ticket number, and will be happy to tell you how many people are ahead of you (it just works better than guessing how long it might take), and are more than happy to update you on how close you’re getting if you drop us a line.  One thing we do promise is that we will take our time and perform your repair as thoroughly and carefully as possible (by the way, if you bring your guitar in for a job requiring finish work or touch up, please allow extra time; we use traditional finish materials like nitro-cellulose lacquer that take longer to harden than cheaper modern finishes, but they do look cool and have better acoustic properties, so it’s worth it). Remember, if you want it cheap, you get it cheap, and if you want it rushed, you get it rushed.  The wait is only once, but wrong is forever.  Don’t be fooled into leaving your instrument with someone who promises it will be done fast- odds are, they’ll probably miss the deadline anyway, unless they hurry up to get it done and ruin your guitar! top

How much does it cost?

Another question techs hate!  The truth is, just like doctors, repairmen can only hypothesize what is wrong until they’ve already done half of the work.  But, quite reasonably, you would like to know how much you’re going to be into it for.  After many years of fixing guitars and amps, we can give you a pretty good idea based upon what similar repairs ended up costing.  Repair rates for guitars are $60/hour and for amps are $80/hour, plus parts.  A basic guitar set up or amp service usually takes about an hour.  We can also call you if the repair is going over a pre-set limit that you determine, but if you want your equipment back quickly it can slow down the process.  Why is it that nowadays we all have cell phones, yet you can’t get a hold of anybody without playing phone tag?  Somebody remind me to ask tech support (if I can ever get them to call me back)!  At least if you call us, you’ll get a prompt response! top

Can I get it done while I wait?

Nah, you don’t really want that do you??  First of all, anytime you hire someone to perform a service, you really end up choosing between quality, speed, and price.  Good shops like ours can give you two of the three, but if you want it now, and you want it good, it’s going to be expensive.  Customers standing in the shop distract the repair man, increasing the chance that he might make a mistake (definitely not good), or at the very least the repair might take longer to get finished (remember we bill by the hour).  If it’s really an emergency (we know the show must go on), and if we can fit you in (we’ll try our best), it’s best to drop it off and go shopping or get some lunch.  That way you can do something more valuable than hang around waiting, and we can focus on what’s important: making your guitar sing like it was meant to. top

Is your work guaranteed?

Absolutely.  If you have work performed by us that doesn’t exceed your expectations, please let us know!!  We begrudgingly admit we’re not perfect, and to be honest, once in a while something gets missed, or maybe the problem we found wasn’t the only one (just the only one that showed up while your guitar/amp was on the bench).  If your equipment fails due to faulty materials or workmanship on the job you hired us to do, we’ll fix it free (parts are warranted for a limited time as per the manufacturer’s warranty coverage – usually about 90 days for most electronic parts)!  We also give you top priority on any rework, after all you already waited for it once.  If the failure is caused by a fault in a system that we did not work on, we’ll perform the remaining work as cost-effectively as possible, and still give you top priority service, because we’re musicians too, and we know how frustrating those little gremlins can be when your really need your gear back fast! top
